BBQ Quavers are an attempt to add variety to a format that wasn’t crying out for it. Standard Quavers are cheese. That’s the thing. BBQ is a departure from identity.
The departure works reasonably well. BBQ flavour is bold enough to register on Quavers’ dissolving-on-contact texture. The sweetness and smoke provide something different to taste while the format does its usual disappearing act.
But it raises questions. If you want BBQ flavour, don’t you want something with more substance? Quavers’ appeal is gentle nothingness. BBQ wants to be tasted. The combination is philosophically awkward.
Exists. Functions. Struggles to justify itself.
