Crinkle cut crisps are divisive. Some people love the extra texture. Others think they’re just regular crisps trying too hard. I’m in the former camp, and these Specially Selected versions make a strong case for the crinkle.
The ridges here are deep and well-defined, creating genuine structural integrity. These are crisps you could build with. The crunch is amplified by the corrugated surface, giving each bite multiple breaking points and a more complex mouthfeel.
Sea salt vs regular salt
The “sea salt” descriptor is doing some work here. Is it meaningfully different from regular salt? Almost certainly not. But there’s a perceived quality that comes with the branding, and whether by placebo or actual mineral content, these do taste slightly more sophisticated than their Snackrite cousins.
The potato flavour comes through nicely, with a gentle earthiness that the salt enhances rather than masks. These feel like a crisp designed for adults, possibly to accompany a glass of wine rather than a can of Fanta.
The downside
The crinkle cut format means fewer crisps per bag. You’re paying for air and architecture. Whether that trade-off works depends on how much you value the textural experience.
For me, it’s worth it.
