Tesco: Roast Turkey & Herb Butter Flavour

Tesco: Roast Turkey & Herb Butter Flavour

This is a crisp that knows exactly when it wants to be eaten. Late November through early January. With mulled wine or advocaat or whatever people drink at Christmas parties. In a bowl next to the Twiglets and the nuts nobody touches.

The turkey flavour is decent. Savoury, poultry-forward, with herby notes that evoke stuffing and roast dinners. The “herb butter” element adds richness, a fatty undertone that makes the whole thing feel more luxurious than a crisp probably should.

The seasonal problem

These are only relevant for about six weeks per year. For those six weeks, they’re excellent. A genuinely festive crisp that captures Christmas dinner flavours without tasting like a gimmick. Outside those weeks, they’d feel strange. Who eats turkey crisps in July?

Tesco has correctly identified a narrow window and filled it with an appropriate product. Seasonal capitalism at its most precise.

Worth seeking out

If you see these in December, buy them. They’re better than they need to be.
