There’s something almost aggressively unremarkable about Snackrite Ready Salted. They exist. They are crisps. They are salted. That’s about as enthusiastic as I can get.

The texture sits somewhere in the middle ground between satisfying crunch and slightly stale disappointment. Not quite thin enough to be delicate, not quite thick enough to feel substantial. They occupy a no man’s land of crisp engineering that suggests the brief was simply “make them cheap.”

And cheap they are. You can’t argue with the price point. If you’re feeding a children’s party or need something to bulk out a buffet table that nobody will remember eating, these do the job. They’re the backing singers of the crisp world. Present, technically competent, entirely forgettable.

The salt level is fine. The potato flavour is… there, I suppose. There’s a faint earthiness that reminds you these did once have some connection to an actual vegetable, which is more than some budget crisps manage.

Look, I’m not going to pretend these changed my life. They didn’t. But at this price, expecting a transcendent snacking experience is like expecting poetry from a parking ticket. They’re functional. Sometimes functional is enough.
