Thai sweet chicken is a flavour that could go very wrong very quickly. Too sweet and it’s dessert crisps. Too savoury and you lose the Thai element entirely. Get the aromatics wrong and you’ve got confused chicken crisps with identity issues.

Snackrite gets it right.

The sweetness is present but restrained, providing a backdrop rather than dominating. There’s a definite chicken note, that familiar poultry flavouring that works surprisingly well in crisp form. And crucially, there’s something happening with lemongrass and ginger that lifts the whole thing into genuinely Thai territory.

The surprise factor

I didn’t expect much from these. Budget supermarket, novelty flavour, ridged format. All the ingredients for mediocrity. But someone in product development actually cared about this one.

The balance is impressive. Sweet, savoury, aromatic, with a gentle warmth that builds as you eat. It’s not authentic Thai food, obviously, but it’s a convincing impression.

The ridged format works

These benefit from the extra crunch and flavour-holding capacity of the ridged cut. The seasoning clings to every ridge, ensuring consistent flavour throughout the bag.

A genuine recommendation

If you’ve dismissed Snackrite as purely budget fodder, these might change your mind. They’re legitimately good, competing with crisps at twice the price.

One of Aldi’s quiet triumphs.
