Hot dog mustard. Two words that shouldn’t appear on a crisp tube, and yet here we are.

These are aggressive. The mustard hits first, that sharp, nostril-clearing yellow mustard tang that Americans put on everything. Then comes the hot dog element, meaty and processed and weirdly convincing.

Too much happening

The problem is intensity. Each crisp delivers a full-force flavour assault that leaves no room for subtlety. By the fifth or sixth Stackz, your palate is exhausted. The mustard becomes overwhelming, the meatiness becomes cloying.

These would work better as an occasional crisp in a variety pack. As a full tube, they’re a commitment few would willingly make twice.

The mustard question

British mustard and American mustard are different beasts. This is firmly American, that bright yellow, vinegary, almost sweet variety. If you love American hot dogs from baseball games and food carts, this will trigger nostalgia. If you prefer English mustard, you’ll find this strange.

Niche appeal

I can imagine someone loving these. Someone with strong feelings about American diner culture, about hot dogs from Nathan’s, about the specific experience of eating processed meat with yellow mustard at a sporting event.

For everyone else, these are a curiosity best left unexplored.
