Pizza flavoured snacks are a gamble. The flavour is so specific, so tied to a particular food experience, that crisp interpretations usually fail. They taste like the idea of pizza described by someone who’s only seen photographs.
Loaded Pepperoni Pizza is better than expected, which is faint praise but genuine.
There’s tomato. There’s something cheesy. There’s a pepperoni-ish meatiness with paprika and spice. The components exist and combine into something that, if you squint conceptually, approaches pizza.
The “loaded” descriptor is doing heavy lifting. These taste loaded with flavouring, certainly. Whether that flavouring constitutes pepperoni pizza is interpretive.
As a novelty, these work. As a regular purchase, the pizza concept becomes tiring quickly. Some flavours work on repeat. Pizza crisps aren’t one of them.
