Cheese and onion is impossible to get catastrophically wrong. The flavour combination is so robust, so deeply embedded in British snacking DNA, that even minimal effort produces something edible. Tesco’s minimal effort produces something edible.
The cheese is tangy. The onion is there. Orange dust transfers to fingers as tradition demands. All contractual obligations of cheese and onion crisps have been fulfilled.
But there’s nothing here that justifies choosing Tesco over Walkers or Golden Wonder or any of the dozen other cheese and onion options available in the same supermarket. No distinctive character. No memorable quality. Just competent reproduction of a standard formula.
Buy these if they’re in the meal deal. Otherwise, keep walking down the aisle.
