Tyrrells: Naked (unsalted)

Tyrrells: Naked (unsalted)

Naked crisps. No salt. No seasoning. Just potato cooked in oil, presented without embellishment, demanding that you accept them on their own terms.

The terms are challenging.

Without salt, potato flavour dominates completely. Earthy, starchy, genuinely vegetable. It’s interesting in small doses, educational about what crisps actually taste like before seasoning intervenes.

But interesting isn’t the same as enjoyable. Salt exists because it makes food taste better. Removing it entirely is a statement, a philosophical position about purity and authenticity. Whether that position produces good snacking is debatable.

The pairing argument

These work with dips. The complete lack of seasoning means no flavour competition. Whatever you’re dipping into provides all the taste. As pure dip vehicles, they’re excellent.

Alone, they’re a curiosity more than a pleasure.
