Cool flavour tortilla chips exist because Doritos Cool Original exists. Let’s not pretend otherwise. This is a direct copy, from the pale blue packaging to the tangy, creamy, vaguely dairy-adjacent seasoning.
As copies go, it’s decent.
The tortilla base is sturdy and well-executed, with good corn flavour and a satisfying snap. These hold up to dipping without disintegrating, which is the minimum requirement for any tortilla chip.
The cool factor
What is “cool” flavour anyway? It’s sour cream, essentially. A tangy, creamy seasoning that provides flavour without heat. The name is marketing poetry, meaningless but evocative.
Deltas delivers this flavour competently. The tanginess is there, the creaminess is there. It’s recognisably the same flavour profile as the Doritos version.
Where it falls short
The seasoning coverage is inconsistent. Some chips are well-coated, others are practically naked tortilla. This variation means some bites are flavourful and others are just corn and salt.
Doritos has better quality control. You’re paying for consistency as much as flavour.
The value equation
For dipping, where the tortilla chip is a vehicle for salsa or guacamole, these are perfectly adequate. For eating solo, when the seasoning matters more, the inconsistency becomes annoying.
Good enough for purpose.
