This is a crisp that knows what it wants to be. Prime rib. Smoked ancho butter. The full American steakhouse experience, minus the $80 bill and the performative knife sharpening.
And remarkably, it works.
The beef flavour is rich and convincing, more depth than standard meat crisps achieve. The smoked ancho adds genuine complexity, a chilli warmth that’s more aromatic than hot. The butter element provides richness that rounds everything out. Someone actually thought about what smoked ancho butter tastes like on prime rib and worked backwards to create a crisp.
The Taste the Difference reality
Taste the Difference is Sainsbury’s premium range, and with this product, the premium positioning is justified. The hand-cooked thick-cut base handles the bold flavouring properly. The seasoning is layered rather than one-note. This is craft, not committee.
Limited edition frustration
The “limited edition” designation means this will disappear, which is infuriating. Sainsbury’s creates something genuinely excellent and then removes it from circulation while maintaining their mediocre standard range indefinitely.
Find these. Buy multiples. Mourn when they’re gone.
