Sainsbury’s: Tortilla Chips Cool

Sainsbury’s: Tortilla Chips Cool

Let’s be honest about what these are: Doritos Cool Original with a Sainsbury’s label. Same flavour profile, same pale blue colour coding, same tangy creamy seasoning that everyone knows because Doritos made everyone know it.

That’s not criticism. It’s just acknowledgment.

The cool flavour is well-replicated. Sour cream tanginess, gentle seasoning, the not-quite-identifiable creaminess that makes this flavour work. It’s the Switzerland of tortilla chip flavours, neutral enough for any dip, mild enough for any palate.

Where Sainsbury’s falls short is consistency. Doritos coats every chip evenly. Sainsbury’s has more variation, some chips generously seasoned, others practically plain. Quality control is looser, which is presumably how costs are controlled.

The value calculation

These are cheaper than Doritos. If the price difference is significant and you’re buying for a crowd who won’t notice inconsistent seasoning, the economics work. For solo snacking where every chip matters, the inconsistency becomes more annoying.

A competent copy at a competent price.
