Let’s address the elephant in the room: these are Pringles. Or rather, they’re Aldi’s attempt at Pringles. The stackable, uniform, reconstituted potato snacks that come in a tube.
As Pringles alternatives go, Stackz are decent. The texture is close to the original, that distinctive uniform crunch that comes from engineering rather than nature. They stack neatly, they don’t crumble, they do what they’re supposed to do.
The BBQ situation
The barbecue flavouring is fine. Sweet, smoky, with a hint of tang. It’s generic BBQ flavour, the kind that doesn’t evoke any specific regional style but provides the universal expectation of barbecue-ness.
It’s not as punchy as Pringles BBQ. There’s less depth to the smokiness, less sweetness to balance it. These taste like BBQ crisps made by someone who has read about BBQ rather than experienced it.
The value proposition
They’re significantly cheaper than Pringles. For children or parties or mindless snacking in front of the television, that price difference makes them a sensible choice.
For actual crisp enjoyment? Spend the extra.
