Salt and vinegar is the great equaliser of the crisp world. Get the ratio wrong and you’ve got a bag of disappointment. Get it right and even the humblest budget crisp can compete with the big boys.

Snackrite gets it… mostly right.

The vinegar hit is immediate and assertive. It’s not subtle. It’s not trying to be. This is vinegar that announces itself like a drunk uncle at a wedding, and honestly, that’s what I want from this flavour profile. None of this “hint of aged balsamic” nonsense. Just straight, acidic punch.

The salt balances it reasonably well, though there’s an inconsistency issue. Some crisps in the bag are practically weapons-grade sour, while others taste like they wandered in from a ready salted packet and are wondering what all the fuss is about.

The lip sting test

A proper salt and vinegar crisp should make your lips tingle after a handful. These pass that test, just about. By the bottom of the bag, you’ll feel like you’ve been mildly assaulted, which is exactly the experience the flavour promises.

Not refined. Not elegant. But effective.
