This is cheese and onion with ambitions. The handcooked base elevates everything, providing a canvas that the flavouring can actually work with rather than disappear into.

And the flavouring is noticeably better than the Snackrite version. The cheese here tastes almost like cheese. Not quite, obviously, because we’re still in crisp territory, but there’s a sharpness and depth that suggests someone bothered to use decent flavouring compounds.

The cheddar question

“Cheddar” is doing heavy lifting in the name. This doesn’t taste like a specific cheddar. It doesn’t taste like Davidstow or Cathedral City or any identifiable variety. But it tastes cheese-adjacent in a convincing way, with a savoury tang that marries nicely with the onion.

The onion component is more sophisticated too. Less of the harsh synthetic bite of the budget range, more of a caramelised sweetness that develops as you chew.

Texture wins

The handcooked crunch makes each bite feel substantial. You’re not just eating these mindlessly. They demand attention.

This is what the Snackrite Cheese & Onion wants to be when it grows up.
