I approached these with suspicion. Novelty flavours are often more concept than execution, designed to catch your eye on the shelf and then disappoint in the eating.
These are not that.
Aldi has absolutely nailed garlic bread in crisp form. The garlic is punchy without being vampiric, delivering that roasted, slightly sweet allium hit that actual garlic bread provides. And there’s a butteriness to the flavouring that genuinely evokes the experience of biting into a warm, oil-soaked slice.
The herby notes
There’s something herbal happening here too. A hint of parsley, maybe some oregano. It’s subtle, but it adds authenticity. These taste like someone actually ate garlic bread and tried to reverse-engineer the experience, rather than just throwing garlic powder at a crisp and calling it done.
Perfect pairings
These want to be eaten with something. A bowl of pasta. A pizza. Something Italian and tomatoey. As standalone snacking they’re good. As an accompaniment, they’re excellent.
The garlic breath situation
Worth mentioning: these will give you garlic breath. Proper, antisocial, don’t-kiss-anyone-for-three-hours garlic breath. Plan accordingly.
Worth it.
