Jerk seasoning is difficult to translate to crisps. The real thing involves scotch bonnets, allspice, thyme, and flavour built through marinading and slow cooking. Capturing that complexity in powder form is ambitious.

Asda makes a credible attempt.

The heat is present and genuine. Scotch bonnet character rather than generic chilli. There’s allspice sweetness underneath, the warming spice that distinguishes jerk from other Caribbean seasonings.

The ridged format holds the bold flavouring well. Deep grooves catch seasoning, delivering consistent jerk character across each crisp. The crunch provides textural satisfaction.

Is it authentic jerk? Not really. Is it jerk-inspired crisps done with respect for the source? Yes. That distinction matters.

For Caribbean flavour enthusiasts, these are worth trying. Asda’s Extra Special occasionally surprises.
