Beef and mustard is a combination that exists on plates across Britain. Roast beef sandwiches with English mustard. Steak with a dollop of Colman’s. It’s a natural pairing that translates surprisingly well to crisp form.

Burts’ version leads with the mustard. There’s a proper nasal heat, that distinctive English mustard kick that clears your sinuses and demands attention. This isn’t American yellow mustard sweetness. This is the real thing.

The beef balance

The beef provides savory depth underneath the mustard assault. It grounds the heat in something meaty and satisfying, preventing the mustard from becoming overwhelming.

The combination works because neither element dominates completely. They trade off, with mustard hitting first and beef providing the finish.

The heat character

Mustard heat is different from chilli heat. It’s sharper, more immediate, and it fades faster. Burts captures this well, delivering that characteristic mustard punch without lingering burn.

If you like English mustard, you’ll appreciate this. If you don’t, these aren’t for you.

A bold choice

This isn’t a safe flavour. Mustard is divisive, and Burts hasn’t toned it down for mass appeal. That commitment to flavour authenticity is admirable.

Not for everyone, but excellent for its intended audience.
