Salsa Verde is what happens when Doritos remembers that tortilla chips are Mexican food and should maybe taste like it occasionally.

The flavour is tomatillo-tangy with jalapeño warmth and a herby brightness that nothing else in the range offers. It tastes green, somehow. Vegetal in a way that British crisp flavours rarely attempt. Like someone blended a Mexican salsa and figured out how to make it into dust.

This is not a mainstream flavour. It’s too specific, too unfamiliar to British palates trained on cheese and onion. Finding it requires effort, usually meaning American import shops or the world food aisle at larger supermarkets.

The effort is worth it.

Salsa Verde with actual guacamole is a revelation. The chip and dip speak the same flavour language, green talking to green, creating something more coherent than the usual British tortilla-and-dip mishmash.

Is this the best Doritos flavour? For people who want something genuinely different, possibly yes. For people who want reliable, familiar snacking, it’s too much of a departure.

Not for everyone. Perfect for some.
