Bacon Crispies are not crisps. They’re crispy bacon-shaped corn snacks, occupying the same category as Frazzles and designed to evoke the same nostalgic responses.
The comparison to Frazzles is inevitable and slightly unflattering. Frazzles have decades of brand recognition and formula refinement. Sainsbury’s Bacon Crispies are the own-brand alternative, cheaper and less embedded in cultural memory.
The bacon flavour is smoky and salty, hitting the right notes without the same intensity as the brand leader. The rashers are crunchy and dissolve reasonably well, creating the quick hit of bacon flavour that this format requires.
These are perfectly acceptable Frazzles alternatives. If you’re buying for children who won’t notice the difference, or for yourself when Frazzles aren’t available, they function. The price saving might justify the slight quality reduction.
But if you actually want bacon-flavoured rashers rather than just needing them, buy Frazzles. The original exists for a reason.
