Finest is Tesco’s “we can do premium too” range, and with hand cooked crisps, they’re competing directly with Kettle and Tyrrell’s. The ambition is admirable. The execution is surprisingly decent.
These are properly hand cooked. Thick cut, irregular shapes, the bubbled surfaces and folded edges that signal genuine craft. The crunch is substantial and satisfying, worlds apart from the standard Tesco crisp experience.
The “lightly salted” description is accurate. There’s restraint here, enough seasoning to enhance the potato without overwhelming it. And the potato flavour is actually good. Earthy, slightly sweet, recognisably vegetable. Someone cared about ingredient quality.
The value proposition
These cost less than Kettle Chips while achieving roughly 85% of the quality. That’s a meaningful gap, but it’s a smaller gap than the price difference suggests. For everyday premium snacking, Finest Lightly Salted makes economic sense.
Not quite the best. Comfortably in the conversation.
