MAX is Walkers admitting their standard crisps are inadequate. The whole sub-brand exists because someone finally acknowledged that thin, collapsing crisps aren’t good enough. So they made thicker crisps and called them MAX and charged more.
And you know what? It works.
MAX Paprika has actual crunch. Genuine resistance when you bite down. A texture that holds together rather than surrendering immediately. This alone makes them better than anything in the standard range.
The paprika seasoning is well-judged. Sweet, slightly smoky, with warmth that builds without becoming heat. It’s a flavour that suits the ridged format, clinging to the grooves and delivering consistent taste throughout the bag.
The question this raises
If Walkers can make crisps this good, why don’t they make all their crisps this good? The standard range continues to exist, continues to dominate, continues to disappoint. MAX proves they’re capable of better and chooses to reserve better for premium pricing.
It’s cynical. It’s also capitalism. And the crisps are genuinely good, so the cynicism is hard to hold against them.
