Light crisps are a compromise. You’re trading flavour and texture for the ability to pretend you’re being healthy while still eating crisps. It’s a bargain most people regret.
Snackrite’s Ridged Lights don’t escape this fundamental problem, but they manage it better than most.
The texture is the first casualty. That satisfying crunch of a proper ridged crisp becomes something softer, almost styrofoam-like. You bite down expecting resistance and get… compliance. It’s disconcerting.
The flavour situation
Ready salted is perhaps the worst flavour for a light crisp. With no bold seasoning to distract you, every textural flaw is exposed. You’re left with the naked reality of a reduced-fat potato snack, and that reality is underwhelming.
The salt is there. The potato flavour is there, sort of. But everything feels muted, like eating crisps through a filter.
Who are these for?
If you’re counting calories but absolutely must have crisps, these exist. They fulfil a function. But nobody has ever finished a bag of light crisps and thought “that was satisfying.”
They’re the snacking equivalent of a participation trophy. You showed up. Well done. But let’s not pretend this was a victory.
The honest truth
Eat fewer proper crisps instead. The experience will be better, and the calorie saving roughly equivalent.
